Why Do I Get These Messages When I Try To Connect?
Does the message pop up right away? or does it take a while, then pop up?
It Takes A While, Around 20 Seconds.
I'm not sure what is causing this issue, but I am effected by it as well =(
is it only macs doing it?

Try Reopening, Then Try A Diffrent Server Or Try Removing And ReInstalling
You Could Install A VM Run Windows And Play Minecraft Within It if Its A Mac Only

I am running on Windows 7 64-bit. Sometimes I get the error ...returned HTTP response code: 500 for URL... etc. I usually just shrug it off and watch manga for a few minutes and try again <object class="emojione" data="https://resources.enjin.com/1489581540/themes/core/images/emojione/svg/1f61b.svg?0" type="image/svg+xml" standby=":p">:p</object> Well, it just shows that this problem isn't Mac exclusive.

I'm glad you posted this, saves me the trouble! But anyway, all my symptoms are the same. I wouldn't be surprised if this is affecting a lot of MT users as the player count has been around 18 for some time now.
I can log onto other servers, even the Dev server. Minetown Main world isn't having any of it though.

I had to disable all mods except for the key macros and optifine and I was able to log in. It still took a long time to connect though. If I have the minimap installed, I can't even connect to the server.
i believe but not sure if this is true or not but the minecraft servers are overloaded but not too sure
