If it's a ddos the culprit is probably an angry ex-player who worked a random and anonymous group of wanna-be hackers into chargin' up their lazers on MT. This kind of systematic attack can be exploited with very little technical knowledge but is rarely efficient without multiple hosts, so punks mislead a group of wanna-be's into spamming packets until we can't handle it anymore - most of the time on premise that we're some sort of malware developer or internet bad guy. In my day, you couldn't rely on some misled kids going from 0 to master with one install and a little social psychological engineering to cause an interruption. Nowadays, there are almost as many willing slaves as there are intruded slaves. One does not simply become immune to ddos, prevention is the only control and I'm certain the data center will be looking into security after the recent attacks. It is becoming much more common for ISP's to take action against attackers, because many of them are ignorant traceable folk. If it's your birthday, blow out a candle and hope some of them get paperwork.
